VEVO

A music video hosting and distribution platform co-owned by major labels, designed to host official music videos with monetisation and analytics infrastructure.

VEVO channels on YouTube are the official home of most major label music videos. Videos uploaded to VEVO carry better monetisation terms for labels and artists than videos on standard YouTube channels.

VEVO in the real world

YouTube’s most-viewed video of all time, Luis Fonsi’s Despacito (2017, featuring Daddy Yankee), was hosted on a VEVO channel and surpassed five billion views within a year of release. VEVO’s infrastructure tracked, monetised, and distributed royalties on every one of those views. For rights holders, the difference between a VEVO upload and a standard YouTube upload is significant in terms of revenue per view.
