Chris “MUG5″Maguire recorded, engineered, produced, mixed and mastered the debut album “Hiraeth” by Kryophere at the end of 2009 and so it only made sense that the Kryophere boys asked him to do the artwork and art direction – which he gladly agreed to!
The artwork is inspired whilst listening to the album on repeat. “Hiraeth” itself is a Welsh term closely translated as “a longing for home” and as such, the image depicted is of what the albums sound would look like if it was someones home. Dark, heavy, grungy and gritty with moments of beauty all melded together to make an amazing debut album for Kryophere. It is worth noting that out of the window of the house can be seen castle battlements that are flying a mini Welsh flag because of course, this album would be flying the Welsh flag!
The back cover is meant to be another corner of the house and shows a smashed up picture frame containing a picture of the Kryophere boys.
Both us and the band are realy happy with the outcome of this album cover because although it hints at it being metal, you aren’t quite sure until you slip the CD in your player and get drilled by the technical and experimental that comes out of your speakers.
